Kids Eat Free, Parents Eat Happy

February 6, 2012 by Editor in Eat with 0 Comments

If you have one or more children, whether you are a single parent or a dynamic duo, eating dinner out can become quite a pricey event. Fortunately, there are some restaurants out there that feel your pain and they are doing something about it.

Major restaurant chains like Ihop and Applebee’s cater to families by offering special days that kids eat free. At most places you will need to buy at least one adult entree for this offer to be honored. Some places will require you to buy one adult meal for every free kid’s meal, others may let all kids eat free from one adult meal purchase. Make sure you inquire at each location to find out what their specific guidelines are for this type of offer before you order so there are no surprises at the end!

Check in your area for restaurants that offer Kids Eat Free deals. Many times things like this are not advertised on their websites, but you may see signs about it at the actual establishment. Days and times will vary by location.

Here are a few national chains that offer this great deal:

  • Applebee’s
  • Bennigan’s
  • Buffalo’s Cafe
  • Captain D’s
  • Chevys
  • Denny’s
  • Golden Corral
  • Ihop
  • Johnny Rockets
  • Lone Star Steak House
  • Moe’s
  • Piccadilly
  • Steak ‘n Shake
  • Tony Roma’s

If you don’t see a restaurant that you frequently visit in the list above, don’t let that deter you. Call up your favorite family dining hang-outs and just ask them if they have any specials for children or families. Even if they don’t have a Kids Eat Free promotion at their establishment, they may still have other specials that you are unaware of.

I always call ahead when I am going out to eat with the family. More times than not I will call at the beginning of the week to see if there are any specific days they have specials running and then plan my family dinner night out on that day. It usually saves me $25 or more — and that is a lot when you are trying to maintain a budget!
