You don’t have to be miserable just because you are alone on Valentine’s Day. You can still have a little fun and enjoy this day, even if you don’t have a significant other to share it with. It is always wonderful to be able to show others a little love and appreciation, but it is just as equally important to give this type of recognition to yourself.
Valentine’s Day is a great day to spoil yourself. There is no shame in grabbing a bouquet of flowers (even if you are a guy), or a few, at the grocery store while you are buying other essentials. It will brighten up your room(s) and your spirit.
Order out from a preferred restaurant or cook your favorite meal. Even if it’s just you, left-overs are good for saving on the following day’s lunch expense! If you really love chocolate, grab a little package of some while you are doing your grocery shopping, and perhaps a nice bottle of red wine to complement it, then plan to watch some funny movies or read a light-hearted book for the evening. Avoid romantic or dramatic movies, TV shows or books. It’s all about uplifting the mood, not reminding yourself that you are alone for the evening.
If you would rather be more active, try working out, go for a walk or take on an arts and crafts or home improvement project.
After your evening’s entertainment, indulge yourself even more by taking the opportunity to relax in a soothing flower-petal, candle-lit bubble bath while listening to some calming background music.
Follow this with a focused meditation just before bed, focusing on all of the positive things you are thankful for in your life — even if it is as simple as being thankful it didn’t rain on you while you were unloading your groceries! There is ALWAYS something to be thankful for. Don’t take the small things for granted.
And whether someone says this to you or not, let me be the first — Happy Valentine’s Day to YOU. You are special, unique and beautiful. Never let anyone, including yourself, tell you any different.
