Air Travel Just Got More Comfortable

February 21, 2012 by Editor in Travel with 0 Comments

Delta airlines is in the process of renovating their 747-400 aircraft fleet to make flights more comfortable and entertaining. The BusinessElite cabin will be adding on full flat-bed seats so you can actually lie down and take a nap. They are also adding new slim-line seats that will give passengers more space and individual in-seat entertainment in the Economy cabin.

The BusinessElite cabin on the 747 will have 48 full flat-bed seats on the upper and lower deck of the aircraft once the renovations are complete. Each seat will have direct isle access, a 110-volt power outlet, USB port, personal LED reading lamp, 15.4-inch wide-screen video monitor and access to over 1,000 entertainment options — music, TV shows, movies and video games.

“Our best customers want a full flat-bed seat with direct aisle access and the new BusinessElite configuration of our 747s provides them with an industry-leading experience as they fly across the globe,” said Glen Hauenstein, executive vice president – Marketing, Network and Revenue Management.  “The days of having to step over a sleeping customer in the seat next to you are over.  These upgrades will make the 747 the premier aircraft in our international fleet and customers will immediately notice the improved experience.”

In addition to the wow-factor modifications for the BusinessElite cabin, Delta is making a few changes for those of us that can’t quite afford that ticket price. The “Economy Comfort” section will have new seats on the 747s that will give passengers four additional inches of leg space, 35 inches of seat pitch and 50% more reclining ability. There will be 42 Economy Comfort seats available on each 747 aircraft in the first few rows of the Economy cabin.

Those who elect to buy tickets for these particular seats will also enjoy priority boarding and complimentary spirits throughout the flight.

If that ticket price is still a little too steep for you, don’t fret, the basic Economy section is getting a few upgrades as well. You will be spoiled with new slim-line seats that provide you with two more inches of knee clearance, a headrest with adjustable wings, height and tilt, USB power and an industry-leading, nine-inch touchscreen with the same on-demand entertainment functionality available to the BusinessElite.

Bon Voyage.
